Aerosol Generators

QVA Test Solutions has developed low output aerosol (oil based agents) generators for use with particle counters during filter integrity testing as well as cleanroom recovery applications. In-situ testing of filters using a particle counter enables one to test with aerosol challenges that are on the order of 100 to 1000 times less than typically used for a photometer. This has advantages in many applications.  The undesired loading performance (rapid increase in pressure drop) of some ePTFE media when using high concentrations of PAO or similar agents can be mitigated by limiting filter exposure to these challenge materials.  High concentrations of PAO have also been known to impact the effect of vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) during decontamination processes resulting in a higher frequency of filter changeouts. In addition to the filters, air handling units and controlled environments are also exposed to significantly less aerosol (when compared to Laskin nozzle or Thermal based aerosol generators) which helps reduce the accumulation of liquid reagents in these systems and their components.

The M01335 generator is ideal for testing larger systems where a thermal style generator is typically required. In addition to large systems, the unit is equipped with a secondary nozzle for ease in challenging smaller systems where the control of output concentrations can be difficult for higher output units.

Our work is currently focused on producing low output generators that enable the stable production of liquid aerosols from less than 0.02 μg/liter in 100 cfm of air to concentrations on the order of 0.02 μg/liter in 75,000 cfm of air (equivalent to 15 μg/liter in 100 cfm).  These generators are ideal for use with the Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions ScanAir Pro which is designed for scanning HEPA/ULPA filters for leak detection and sizing.
